A WYTHENSHAWE based company has pledged to donate 2,000 meals to needy people today. The Authentic Food Company, alongside the Lord Mayor's charity 'We Love Manchester' is donating meals worth £3,500. They will be distributed to community groups, refuges and drop in centres around Manchester. Nik Basran, the company's managing director said: “It's often said that the way to a person's heart is through their stomach, and our promise this Valentine's Day is definitely both heart-felt and gastronomic.”

A COUPLE IN ECCLES are faced with charges of human trafficking, false imprisonment and more. An orphaned, deaf Pakistani girl who was brought into the UK by the couple says she was forced to work without payment, sexually assaulted, beaten and locked in a cellar each night. The couple, Ilyas Asha and Tallat Ashar, deny all charges.

CARLOS TEVEZ has claimed Roberto Manchini treated him like a dog in Munich, during an interview with Fox. The striker's interview comes just before he is due to return to City for training, after three months in Argentina.

MANCHESTER CITY COUNCIL has asked Jamie Oliver to lead a new children's healthy eating drive in the city. The level of children obesity in Manchester is currently above average and the council wants to educate families on healthy eating. Councillor Pat Karney believes Jamie will be a major asset to Manchester with his new restaurant in the city, Jamie's Italian.

This week in 1958: Christabel Pankhurst died. In 1905 she went to prison for disrupting a Manchester meeting, demanding Votes for Women.
