CARLOS Tevez has been banned until further notice while Manchester City investigates the player's alleged refusal to go onto the pitch in Tuesday night’s match against Bayern Munich. Police officers were rushed to the airport to meet the team's plane in order to protect Tevez from angry fans. The operation is believed to have cost thousands of pounds and GMP plans to hand City the bill.

MERCURY Music Price winners Elbow are staging a free concert at Manchester Cathedral. They will be performing on October 27 with the show being broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 and digital TV. Proceeds from the concert will go towards supporting scholarships for young people wanting to attend Chetham’s School of Music. Information for tickets is expected to be released in the next few weeks.

A POLITICAL violence lecturer who assaulted a police officer will keep his job at Manchester University. Dr Emmanuel-Pierre Guittet attacked the officer during a student fees demo on November 30, 2010, as he was trying to block rushing protesters from a building on Oxford Road. Dr Guittet denies the assault but was still convicted after a trial.

A MOSTON Grandad waited 90 minutes after suffering a stroke at his home. John McWilliams, 76, had an agonising wait after his son had phoned for and ambulance and was informed the paramedics were on their way. They turned up 90 minutes later and McWilliams was taken to North Manchester General Hospital, where he remains. He is now paralysed down his left side.
