MORE than £1,000 worth of raffle prizes have been stolen from Canterbury Road Day Nursery in Davyhulme. The raffle was to raise money five-year-old Ria Stonehouse, who has cerebral palsy, to go to the US for surgery to help her walk. Thieves stole the prizes on 9th August and caused worth of damage.

GARY Neville has won in his bid to open a restaurant in Swinton. Gary and his father, Neville Neville, plan to convert the Folly Lane Social Club after being initially turned down by Salford Council. The original number of seats has now been reduced and the number of parking spaces increased. A petition was submitted by locals and objections remain over traffic and noise.

A WOMAN has been savaged by a dog in Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield. Karen Greaves of Withington lay across the bull mastif’s back and put her hands in its mouth. She needed surgery on her hands and will be scarred for life. The dog, which was not on a lead, had already killed the family’s puppy. Greaves is now campaigning for separate dog parks.

CROWDS gathered in Market Street yesterday for the ‘Manchester Moment’, part of the ‘I love Manchester’ campaign. Councillor Pat Karney, said: “The people of Manchester sent out a clear message that the streets belong to them”. Many people took advantage of yesterday’s free tram travel and parking in the Arndale car park to show their support for the city. You can read the full story by clicking here.
