City News in 250 Words: Monday 28 November

A HIGH SPEED CAR-CHASE resulted in a pile-up with four people injured on Sunday. The collision occurred as a police car pursued a stolen vehicle through Leigh. One person suffered a dislocated shoulder and three others have been treated for whiplash and shock. Three men have been arrested on suspicion of theft.

POLICE EXPECT UP TO 13,000 DEMONSTRATORS to attend the Unions protest on Wednesday. As a result, one of Manchester Airport’s terminals will be closing and many schools have announced closures. Emergency services will be operating as usual, however hundreds of NHS appointments have been cancelled. The council is yet unable to guarantee which services will be running but have confirmed the city’s streets will be clean by the weekend. This will be the biggest strike in over 30 years.

SUSPECTS RELEASED FOLLOWING ASHES MUGGING: An elderly mugging victim died on Friday night after being attacked by muggers who struck her head and stole her handbag. Nellie Geraghty tried to hold on to her handbag which contained the ashes of her late husband. Two boys aged 17 and 14 have been questioned and bailed until 9 January. Her family are appealing the ashes to be returned.

LONGSIGHT X FACTOR CONTESTANT MISHA B survived another weekend on the show after being voted to the bottom two by viewers once again. The sing-off was against rival Irish singer, Janet Devlin. Both girls were mentored by Kelly Rowland, who opted out from the judge’s final vote thus resulting in Janet losing out.

This week in 1843: A soiree was held at Manchester Town Hall, to celebrate the Saturday half-holiday granted to Manchester’s workers.
