BAE Systems workers have cycled through the night to protest at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester. Nine employees, from the factory in Brough, East Yorkshire, set off from the plant on Tuesday to cycle the 82-mile route. The protestors hope to speak to the prime minister and Defence Secretary Liam Fox after BAE Systems announced that it would cut 900 of its 1,300 jobs at Brough to ‘ensure its long term future.’
A WOMAN has had her leg amputated after she was hit by a lorry outside Salford Royal Hospital. The 64-year-old was hit at around 2pm on Eccles Old Road on Monday. She suffered serious injuries to her leg and pelvis and remains in a critical condition in hospital.
A GOLFER from Manchester is attempting to sue a West Lothian club after he lost an eye whilst playing the course. Anthony Phee has raised action for £750,000 damages against fellow golfer, James Gordon, and Niddry Castle Golf Club after he was hit by a ball and felt his eye ‘explode.’ Phee had ducked and raised a hand when he heard a shout of ‘fore’, but claims a lack of course knowledge meant he didn’t know where the ball was coming from.
SUPERMARKET workers at ASDA have claimed more than £6 million on the National Lottery. The 16-person syndicate at the store on Greenfield Street, Hyde, won the rollover jackpot of £6,873,588 on Saturday – more than £429,599 each. The winning numbers were 4, 15, 17 26, 37, and 41.
