MANCHESTER AIRPORT is hoping to land a deal with Beijing Capital International Airport, which could result in billions of pounds of investment to the region. As part of the deal, Manchester Airport would be named the sister airport of Beijing Capital International Airport – the second largest in the world. A MAN has been jailed for life for in the Hattersley murder case. Adam Hamnett, 23, admitted robbing and murdering Peter Boustead, 58, at his home on 7 March. Hamnett had brutally slashed Boustead with a knife and smashed a bottle over his head before stealing cash from his wallet to pay back a blind man he had robbed just days earlier. He was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court and must serve a minimum of 20 years.

PLANS to extend Salford Shopping City will create 300 jobs if they are given the go ahead. The shopping centre was badly damaged during the riots on 9 August but now the owners, Salford Estates, hope to rebuild the precinct with 13 new double-height shop units and a new market hall.

BINMEN in Bury could be given iPads to help them improve the efficiency of their round. The council has confirmed that twenty-two tablet computers could be installed in bin wagons to measure the level of recycled waste collected and aid navigation. The combined cost of the iPads would be £9,000. Its internal scrutiny committee is due to discuss the issue later.
