City News In 250 Words: Wednesday 16 November

A taxi driver was stabbed in the neck and had his car stolen in Middleton last night. The 38-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which aren’t life threatening, after the incident at the Stakehill Industrial Estate at around 9:30pm. The victim’s black Vauxhall Vectra was driven away from the scene by the offender.

CHILDREN from Stockport have knitted their way into the Guinness World Records by making the world’s largest jacket. The Coat Of Many Colours, which consists of more than 8,000 knitted squares, was made by children and parishioners at St George’s church and primary school. The coat, which measures 42ft 6in by 18ft 2in, will now be taken apart to make blankets to send to Africa.

A paedophilic paramedic who lured a 14-year-old boy to a Suffolk forest after grooming him on the internet has been jailed. Edward Trickett, of Cromwell Grove, Levenshulme, pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault and one of meeting a child after sexual grooming. Trickett had first contacted the teenager via a chatroom, an Ipswich court heard. He was sentenced to four years in prison.

ONE of Manchester’s most notorious gangsters is ready to reveal all in a new book about the cities underworld. 70-year-old Jimmy ‘the weed’ Donnelly, of the infamous Quality Street Gang, has written the autobiography to correct the misconception that all of Britain’s major gangsters came from London. The gang was thought to have been behind 40 years' worth of crime in Manchester from 1960s.

Fact of the day: 15 November 1757 A food riot (the Shudehill Fight) took place in Manchester. Four people died and fifteen were wounded.

Noonan, Donnelly etc.

Why cannot Teresa May send them all back to where (their ancestors) came from?

Or is it all just Tory talk, like on crime and Europe?

GadgeNovember 23rd 2011.

And "40 years' worth of crime"

Luckily none of these corrections take them over their 250 word limit! EDITORIAL: Corrected now, thanks
