City News In 250 Words: Tuesday 6 September

A WOMAN, 25, was hit by a tram at the junction of High Street and Market Street at round 11.15am on Monday 5 September. The woman was treated where she lay near the front of the tram before being stretchered into a waiting ambulance. The woman suffered a minor eye injury and tram services resumed within thirty five minute of the collision.

FROM Saturday 1 October - Saturday 26 November, the first ever Triennial Film Programme will be screened as part of the UK’s only Asian Art Triennial curated by Manchester’s Cornerhouse. This showcase of current visual art from across Asia includes six UK premiers, new features, short films plus a retrospective season of Filipino director (pictured) Brillante Mendoza’s work.

A TAXI driver was attacked by two men while driving in his silver Skoda Octavia along the M56 from Northenden to Wythenshawe. At 6am on 14 August, the front seat passenger grabbed the drivers left arm and steering wheel, and threatened him that unless he gave him money he would kill him. After a failed attempt to call 999, the driver left the car to escape, followed by the two men.

AFTER almost five years apart, legendary Manchester band New Order are to reform without bass player Peter Hook for two shows only. The first show will be in Brussels on 17 October followed by Paris on 18 October in aid of film producer and artist Michael Shamberg, who produced many of New Order’s videos and is now critically ill.

This week in 1842 Francis Bradley was executed for the murder (by arsenic poisoning) of his wife in Goulden Street, Manchester.
