72 PEOPLE have been arrested so far this morning in the Greater Manchester Police pre dawn raid on street gangs suspected of dealing cocaine, crack, heroin and cannabis. This operation has been nearly a year in the planning and is the GMP biggest raid ever undertaken. 150 community members were invited to view these operations as Chief Constable Peter Fahy said it was important for people to see the police work against drugs for themselves. 

OLDHAM Council will shed 400 more jobs, in addition to those 345 jobs already gone this year as a part of £40m of savings. All areas of the council will be looked at to find savings says Council Leader Jim McMahon, who hopes most of the cuts will be from procurement, management and back office costs. Oldham Council asks the public to submit on its website ideas of possible savings made. 

FORMER Manchester United player Ronnie Wallwork has been jailed for 15 months. Ronnie pleaded guilty to three counts of receiving stolen goods. The Police found Ronnie breaking up stolen car parts at a scrap yard while investigating unconnected robberies. His defender said Wallwork had given into temptation because his finances had taken a turn for the worse. 

OWNER of Rochdale's 25-Ten boutique, Paul Turner-Mitchell has been named on the Powerlist 100 of the retail world in British fashion. Accompanying him are stars like Kate Middleton and Sir Philip Green. The boutique is a favourite with Corrie stars like Samia Smith, Shobna Gulati and Michelle Keegan. 

This week in 1903 Salford Chronicle said  ‘the nurses of a woman’s beauty are fresh air, sunshine warmth, rest, sleep, food and whatever stirs the blood’
