THE UNIVERSITY of Salford plan to build new buildings into the existing campus at Peel Park to become a campus-based institution. The university’s vision for Peel Park pans to bring students and the people of Salford together by creating a bright and active atmosphere. If planning permission goes ahead, the village consisting of three blocks of up to 10 storeys high will open at the beginning of the 2013-14 teaching year.

FOOD sell-by dates are to be removed, as confusing packaging is causing the UK to throw away about £12bn of food each year, that’s £680 for a household with children. Backed by the Food Standards Agency (FDA) foods that could become dangerous to eat such as packaged meals and soft cheese will display a use-by date, and foods that have lost their quality but are edible such as tinned foods and biscuits will display a best-before date.

DAVID SCHOFIELD, 21 was hit by a bus on Oxford Road when running for his stolen Blackberry; he sadly died later that day. Now friends will honour the City fan with two 11-a-side charity football games held at Manchester City’s Platt Lane training ground.

MANCHESTER’s Badly Drawn Boy, Cherry Ghost and Kid British will perform at Bury’s Ramsbottom Festival this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Organisers are expecting more than 15, 000 people to turn up, in hope to promote the rural town. Alongside lots of Manchester names there’ll be other acts including the award-winning Guillemots – food and drink will be plentiful too.
