A not so great escape and a visit from the Doctor

TWO PRISONERS have fled from a police van this morning.  An armed gang attacked the van on Trinity Way, Salford at 8.30am. The prisoners and accomplices made off in a Saab however police discovered the car abandoned near Barrow Street, Salford shortly after. One security guard is suffering with minor injuries from the attack. Witnesses are being asked to come forward with any leads.

MANCHESTER CITY has today unveiled their plans to build a ‘world beating’ training complex on the industrial land facing the Etihad Stadium. New pitches, accommodation and classrooms to educate the youth and professional players are just a handful of renovations being thought up, and the club also hopes to create a number of job opportunities for locals. The build is said to be worth £700m and is said to be an investment in maintaining their home-grown talent.

THE END OF MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL saw a surprise visit from the Doctor himself. Matt Smith, the current Doctor Who, was at The Crash of Elysium performance before 25 of his fans. The show was based on the hit BBC show and Smith said it was “a marriage made in creative space heaven.”  

WITH JUST TWO SEASONS AT THE BLUES, Carlos Tevez is out according to a statement released by Roberto Mancini. City and the Corinthians have “an agreement” for the player who is desperate to be closer to his wife and children in Argentina. However Mancini insists that Tevez is still a City player.

Fact of the Day: This week in 1761, The Bridgewater Canal opened, to bring coal to Manchester. The first modern canal in Britain, it used no existing waterways.
