Chief Constable reflects on riots and University of Manchester student develops life saving app

MANCHESTER COULD HAVE BEEN SPARED the August riots had the London police acted faster, according to the city’s Chief Constable Peter Fahy. Looking back, he said the city most likely wouldn’t have had to face the problems of copycat violence, had the London riots have been under control sooner.

A SAUDI ARABIAN TEENAGER has been left in a coma after an attack in the early hours of Saturday. Ibrahim Alharbi, a 19-year-old college student suffered a serious head injury after the attack on Peter Street, which is thought to have been unprovoked. Police are currently looking for witnesses and information about the assault.

A LIFE SAVING APP has been developed by a PhD student at the University of Manchester. Chris Seaton, a former soldier was inspired after seeing burn injuries on fellow soldiers. His app could save lives of burn victims by calculating the correct amounts of fluids to administer, reducing errors made normally by a third. The app recieved a £5,000 innovation award.

MANCHESTER CITY MANAGER Roberto Mancini met with the club’s owner and chairman in Abu Dhabi over the weekend to discuss the future of Carlos Tevez. The striker has now missed four days of training due to his unauthorised trip to Argentina. He could be hit with disciplinary charges of £594,000 for his continued disobedience. City is said to be looking at the possibility of terminating Tevez’s and suing him for compensation.
