City News In 250 Words: Friday 19 August

KNOWN troublemakers convicted of rioting will be issued with anti-social behaviour orders, the council has said. Also, tenants of council housing have been warned they may be subject to eviction. A spokesman for Manchester City Council said they would “consider a wide range of powers to clamp down on those involved.”

PRINCE Harry paid Salford Precinct a visit yesterday to take a look at the worst damage from the riots and praise the efforts of emergency teams. He spoke of his “shock and outrage” of the violence police encountered last week. There was a mixed reaction from Salford locals to the prince’s visit with some questioning whether his presence would make any difference to moral.

MANCHESTER United FC will list shares in the club on the Singapore Stock Exchange to help finance its gross debts of £515m. The sale is estimated to raise between £400m and £600m for the club. A projected 30 per cent stake sale is also seen as an attempt to strengthen the club’s presence in Asia. The Glazer family removed the club from the London stock Exchange following a takeover in 2005.

A COURT ruling over the possession over a sausage dog led to upset for a Stockport couple. Mr Gary Rowlinson and his wife regretfully gave away their 21 month old dachshund, Bailey, to Steven Spencer after it bit their two year old grand-daughter. They offered £1000 to Mr Spencer to return Bailey. He declined and a hearing ruled that Bailey stay with Mr Spencer.

Fact of the day: This week in 1985 The Stone Roses played a gig at the Hacienda, Manchester, promoting their first single ‘So Young’.
