City News In 250 Words: Friday 16 September

A BLACKLEY THIEF who posed as a policeman to steal from a cannabis farmer has been jailed for 12 months. Kyle Warner and a gang of other men burst into Gareth Lavery’s Middleton house. Lavery, however, was unconvinced by the raid’s authenticity and called the real police who arrested both on the scene. Warner had taught himself to find cannabis farms using thermal imaging technology. The other thieves managed to escape.

SALFORD RESIDENTS will party in the streets today to celebrate the completion of 101 new council homes. The new energy-efficient houses are the first council homes to be built in Salford for 25 years. The new residents were invited to the party to mark the occasion and as a way of helping the community get to know one another.

POLICE USE OF A TASER on a 16-year-old boy in Manchester is under investigation. The teenager was tasered when officers were called to an address in Northern Moor following reports of domestic abuse. He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer but no action was taken against him. The inquiry is being carried out by Greater Manchester Police Professional Standards branch under supervision from the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
