SALFORD´S PLAYWRIGHT Shelagh Delaney has died of cancer at the age of 71.  She was best known for A Taste of Honey she wrote at the age of 19, later a Bafta winning film. She wrote for the stage, TV, film and radio in her career. She was also somewhat of a muse to The Smiths who quoted Delany in a song and her image featured their album´s cover Louder Than Bombs. MANCHESTER CITY and Manchester United both hope to progress in their European Champions League games tonight. A MAN has been charged with murder after an attack on Saturday. Ian Sudworth, 24, was found unconscious at around 4:00 pm and brought to an infirmary where he died shortly after. The cause of death was three stab wounds. Jonathan Marron, 21 has been charged with the murder.

GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE uses a 'restorative justice' scheme in the hope offenders will discontinue their criminal behaviour, especially in juvenile cases. This involves victims getting a say in the criminal´s punishment and to meet them face to face, giving the victim a voice to explain the damage caused and the perpetrator a chance to apologize.

Fact of the day: This week in 1923 a tram ran into a flock of sheep being driven along Cross Lane, Salford, and killed one.
