City Life: Manchester Confidential’s Favourite Mag 'Under Review'

Published on November 22nd 2005.

Well, Gordo has spent the last two years lusting after half the women in the offices of City Life, a 21 year old Manchester Institution.

He was dismayed to hear a week ago that the powers that be at the Guardian Media Group have put the magazine 'under review'. This can, in certain circumstances, lead to vicious people spreading scurrilous rumours that the magazine may close.

However, rumours of this kind tend to run around every now and again, a bit like those about the Beetham Tower falling down, Keano leaving Old Trafford, Rooney teaching ‘models’ how to cook at Odyssey Bar and Gordo running for Mayor. However, judging by the flurry of emails from people in the know, along with the Press Club grapevine, there may well be substance behind what we are reading.

It would be a crying shame to lose it. It’s ours really, us Mancs. GMG are only caretakers in our mind.

And, while we are at it, the Guardian should change its name back to The Manchester Guardian. Firstly because it’s ours, and secondly because it would sell more copies; has noone from Bolton realised that Manchester is the coolest brand in Europe?

In the unlikely event of City Life disappearing, anyone needing an alternate and just as effective advertising medium can call 0161 835 2235, mentioning the magic phrase: "I want to spend money on advertising".
