Choice Restaurant and Bar and Noddy Holder

Top city restaurant helps homeless and shouts ‘It’s CCCHHHRRRistmasssss!’

Choice Restaurant and Bar and Noddy Holder

Choice Restaurant in Castlefield held a heart-warming event recently.

They fed and entertained the city’s homeless for nowt on a postcard snowy day. For the folk from The Booth Centre and The Mustard Tree there was a cracking meal of home cooked soup, turkey with all the trimmings, Christmas pudding, mince pies and chocolates.

As a little surprise Choice had big help from a special visitor (no not Santa) ... ex-Slade frontman and all round national treasure Noddy Holder.

Noddy is a patron of the StreetSmart charity and mucked in with the staff, clearing tables, taking out food, signing autographs and chatting to everyone.

Streetsmart raises funds through customer restaurant donations for the homeless. A voluntary £1 is added to the bill of diners as a gift to the homelessness which has an effect all year round. It’s a national scheme but the money raised locally stays local.

Through the StreetSmart scheme, restaurants in Manchester have raised over £60,000 since 2002 for the city's homeless. But the city probably could do with a few more restaurants joining in, there are 15 at present but this could be boosted and help the funding process.

Restaurants involved are Bacchanalia, Choice, Green Tea, Grill on the Alley, Gusto Alderley, Gusto Didsbury, The Lime Tree, The Living Room, The Mark Addy, The Market Restaurant, The Modern, Obsidian and Second Floor, Harvey Nichols.

Choice contributes a great deal with a dinner every two years to raise awareness of the charity and help those less fortunate. So well done to Jon Grieves the proprietor of the business for his largesse. As John says, “Christmas is a time for giving and it’s lovely to help out this way and raise the charity’s profile at the same time.”
