Build Manchester’s digital map

Visit Manchester wants your help to collate the best of the city online

Build Manchester’s digital map

Visit Manchester is close to finishing the latest version of its ‘digital map’ of the city, and is looking for Confidential readers to help shape it.

The first map was drawn up last year, tracking all the websites, blogs and forums that shape the city – we’re on it, natch. You can see it here.

Research for the second map is happening right now. The end game is to have a yearly fixed snapshot of the city's digital presence that we can look back on in terms of digital evolution.

They want your recommendations. And ours, as it turns out.

What do we think? It’s a good resource for the city to have, certainly, but the value of content is key. Blogs often spring up and come out of the traps quickly, then fade after a few months when the writer gets bored or too skint to carry it on, so perhaps an ongoing, fluid approach is best.

Is the real value to the city, or those looking to invest from outside. We’d argue it’s the latter, so anyone on there has to be showing itself off in its best light – which means no room for fiddly, frustrating website which may look pretty but are not great in terms of functionality.

Have a look who’s on there. Is it the right mix? You can rant below, and also submit comments here.

The map is a gimmick.

A list of the websites, in traditional alphabetical order, would be much more usable.

That's a terrible picture - you can;t read it! Where can we access the proper version?

Thanks
