A woman was attacked and raped last weekend by a man driving a black cab in Manchester. He hasn’t yet been caught. Police have today received an E-Fit of the attacker.
The 25-year-old victim flagged down the black cab on Shudehill on Saturday at 1am. She was then driven to Ash Street, Harpurhey, where the taxi driver locked her in the taxi and attacked her.
She managed to escape but police say she was later attacked and raped not far from the junction of Ash Street and Cyprus Street.
Det Insp Nick Hughes, said: "The victim was subjected to an awful sexual assault by a man she had trusted to take her home.
"I want to reassure the community we believe this is an isolated incident and are working closely with the taxi licensing officers.
"There is no reason why this incident should deter people from going out over the festive period and I would reiterate that getting a pre-booked licensed taxi home after a night out is one of the best ways to keep safe."
It’s important to keep your wits about you - especially when you’ve been out drinking. Memorise this face and follow your gut instinct. The attacker is described as Asian, aged between 30 and 40 years old, of stocky build with short black hair and stubble.

EDITORIALLY DELETED - Time and place fella, time and place
This is not a good moment to be making jokes, Fitzy.
Can someone explain what this rant means? I can't see that there would be any 'time and place'..."EDITORIALLY DELETED - Time and place fella, time and place"
There's a time and place for jokes and this isn't it. That what it means Anon
Was this a real taxi driver then? Surely there must cctv of her getting in the taxi?
Good on ManCon for spread the info. Let's have more of the same - a section dedicated to exposing the darker side of Manchester. As the late, great Johnny Ace once said: "Clean-up time ... clean-up, clean-up". There should be no space for such atrocities in this fair city.
Sad story, but why do the Police assume its a licensed black cab. If the guy is a moonlighter or other menace, he can buy an old black cab for a few hundred quid easily.
Whilst I appreciate this is a safety issue, I can't help wondering if this warning has the potential to increase the chance of women jumping in non-regulated vehicles.
Well done to MANCON for distributing this information, hopefully it will prevent someone else getting hurt.
The drivers ID used to be posted in the cab so had some chance of teling if they were legit or a moonlighter. The decision to make them where a name badge around their neck that you can't see is instead is ridiculous.
Surely this warning will decrease the chance of women jumping into non regulated vehicles. If this can happen in a cab you think is legit, you will be even more cautious than ever, not jump into a non-regulated car. Well that's if you've a quarter of a brain! Thanks ManCon for bringing this to our attention, we should have more of this for sure. Lets catch scum bags liket his and get them locked up!!
Brian C... the article doesn't say that the police believe the attacker is a licenced taxi driver does it.
Black cabs and private hire cars do display photo and number of the cab driver inside the cab. From this photofit other drivers will recognise the driver or will ne able to narrow it down to a few possible drivers. In all the year of taxi driving I have newer seen a bogus black cab working in Manchester. A bogus cab would not have the required plate and we would know instantly.
