Last week of free family entertainment at York Designer Outlet

If the kids don't want to spend the day shopping, why not treat them with the promise of ice creams, dancing workshops, and the chance to try their hand as a fashion designer? On every Wednesday in August, York Designer Outlet will have free family events under the theme of British Summer with activities that will suit children of all ages.

Mr Whippy and The Cornettes will be there with their 1950s-style ice cream van and tap dancing show.

On 6 August, there will be summer sport and garden games for whole family, including a giant Connect Four, Jenga, table football and York Rowing Clubs’ rowing challenge.

The following week, on 13 August, you can enjoy a British seaside fun day. Mr Whippy and The Cornettes will be there with their 1950s-style ice cream van and tap dancing show. The Cornettes will run a 15-minute dance workshop for children, and there will be a traditional seaside board for photographs, plus buckets and spades and a seaside chalet. Special offers on fish and chips and ice cream will make it feel like a proper day at the beach.

On 20 August, bring along your cuddly companions for a teddy bears picnic.

There will be storytelling, a giant teddy character and free snack boxes for children. The Balloon Tree Farm Shop will be selling a selection of tasty treats, perfect for a picnic.

Then on 27 August, children can paint their own summer scene on a canvas at an art workshop. They can also have a go at being a fashion designer for Ben Sherman and enter a competition to win some goody bags. Look out for a display about some of the best of British designers from LK Bennett and Margaret Howell, and a tailoring demonstration from Charcoal and Chalk.

These events will take place from 11am until 4pm in the North entrance of the centre. The York Designer Outlet is home to over 120 designer and high street stores with top brands reduced by up to 50 per cent. Located at the A19/A64 intersection, the centre is within easy reach of York city centre. For more information go to www.yorkdesigneroutlet.com or call 01904 682700.
