Yang Sing Fire Latest - Reopens On The Weekend

IN the early hours of Monday morning Yang Sing had a fire in the basement kitchen that began between 2am and 3am.

The fire was isolated to one half of the kitchen but the effects of the smoke are far reaching.

The restaurant has informed us that they are working hard to re-open on an alternative floor and aim to be operational for the weekend.

When the fire began there were two members of staff in the building, who were part of the maintenance and cleaning team; the emergency services were contacted and both emerged unscathed.

The damage to the basement kitchen is extensive. The fire was isolated to one half of the kitchen but the effects of the smoke are far reaching. The basement dining room was untouched but smells smoky. It is believed the fire started accidentally but at this stage no cause has been discovered.

Yang Sing told us: "We are saddened to have had to cancel on diners who were booked in during this week and would like to offer our sincerest apologies for not being able to feed you, we hope that it will not deter you from dining with us in the future. Thank you to all whom have sent messages of support, which have been greatly encouraging whilst ourselves and our partners endeavour to re-open Yang Sing to the public."

Some readers may remember the catastrophic fire in October 1997 that gutted the old textile warehouse Yang Sing occupies. This is nothing like as bad. So the kind of mass military operation needed at the time to transfer 6,000 booked in Christmas customers to temporary dining accommodation at Manchester Central (GMEX as it was) will not be required.
