Toast To Kate’s Telly Tipples

West Didsbury wine guru stars in new Food And Drink show

Toast To Kate’s Telly Tipples

CONGRATULATIONS to Kate Goodman on her successful BBC TV debut in the revived Food And Drink alongside Michel ‘Masterchef’ Roux Jr. The personable proprietor of Reserve Wines of Didsbury dished out the drinks advice and avoided the pitfalls of following in the slurp-steps of Jilly Goolden in the original series.

Jilly Goolden
Plummy-toned, flirty Jilly (right) famously couldn’t resist a fruity comparison. Sniffing a glass of Montepulciano she could detect not only plums but “a little heathery, hot heathland note as well”. That was a decade ago and to her credit Jilly was a wine expert who made the subject accessible. We’re all more savvy now, so Kate, 38, has a tougher task during the initial six show run (BBC2, 8.30pm Mondays. Cheers!

Had no idea who she was, and found her quite annoying to be honest.

I agree, more dumbing down by the BBC I suppose.

Great to see the Beeb give someone like Kate a slot on a reasonably high profile show like Food and Drink. Well done her for bringing a bang up to date take on wine to the telly. I hope she's on our screens for a long time yet.

I thought Kate was fantastic. It's great that Food & Drink has got a real Wine Merchant from The North to head the Wine section and one who has a great knowledge of all the wines of the world. Kate is modern, enthusiastic and fits in with everyone. (Trying bugs I don't think I would of done that!) Her love for wines & ciders came across. I will be going to Reserve to get my Wines and can’t wait to see what she recommends next week on food and Drink. Well-done

It's great to see Food and Drink back on the beeb, with a refreshing facelift! Loved it back then and love it now! New presenters and new format looks really promising and good to see the new wine expert isn't from the same old circuit...Kate Goodman knows her stuff when it comes to wine and she adds a sparkle to the show...more please!
