The Express Lunch Deal at Montpellier's

MONTPELLIER'S has just released two new menus – an upgraded Main Menu with several delicious-sounding additions, and an Express Lunch Menu designed to meet the work-day demands of affordable and fast without compromising on taste.

The lunch menu saves you up to £4.50 on some of Montpellier's most popular dishes

First up, the Express Lunch Menu. If you work in or around the Northern Quarter, we envy you for having this within walking distance.

The lunch menu saves you up to £4.50 on some of Montpellier's most popular dishes and promises to have them ready for you within 20 minutes of receiving your order (which you can make by phone in advance if you like). If not it's half price next time. All options are just £6.95 to eat in or £6.45 to takeaway in a Montpellier's lunch box (available Monday to Friday, midday to 4pm).

Highlights include their slow-cooked beef bourguignon with dauphinoise potatoes and green beans – perfect for the cold weather and those times when you need a big plate of comfort food to get you through the day.

Or if you're looking for energy-boosting wholefoods, go for their Montpellier's salad: grilled halloumi on a bed of green leaves, tomato, cucumber, pimento peppers and red onion with the chef's own vinaigrette.

There's also a delicious Merguez baguette - a traditional spicy sausage on a crusty French stick with mustard and caramelised onions. The juices all mingle together in the soft bread making it a moist and moreish hot sandwich. You'll soon be planning to come back for your next one.

There's also two home-made soup and sandwich combinations that make for a very satisfying, balanced lunch. The sweet pimento with halloumi basil pesto on ciabatta with country tomato soup sounds like a winner to us.

Time-poor folks are welcome to take their lunch back to their desk, or do a group order for the office, but if you can stay, you should. Montpellier's has a lovely, relaxed feel in the day time. Flowers on the wooden tables, lots of natural light and friendly people who'll make you feel at home.

Next up is the new main menu.

Montpellier's does French café-style food, which if you haven't been to a French café lately, roughly translates as simple, fresh, and really good for the price.

They've just introduced a selection of omelettes made with duck eggs and crème fraiche which are getting great reports. And they now have a whole range of croque monsieurs served with salad and seasoned wedges. The Croque Poulet with chicken breast, basil pesto and parma ham in a grilled cheese sauce got our attention.

Sharing boards seem to be a must-have for casual dining places these days. At Montpellier's the boards stand out by being much more than just nibbles – you choose your meats and cheeses from an excellent selection, and the accompanying baguette and chutneys means you can make your own gourmet sandwich from them if you like. Share your favourite combinations on Montpellier's Facebook page and Twitter.

They also now do homemade full plate pies which include their Beef Bourguignon filling, chicken cassoulet, halloumi cassoulet, and lamb tagine – all at very reasonable prices.

Montpellier's new menu hones their French café concept and is packed with the kind of dishes they do best (and their customers love). It's now a real player on the NQ's food scene. If you've not been yet, go and check it out. It's tucked away on Back Turner Street, just off Thomas Street.
