IT'S bad enough that we're being guilted into giving up booze for January (you want me to give you money for not getting bladdered? On yer bike) - they're not 'avin our grub too.
Yes, yes. Christmas excess, sales shopping and a New Year blow-out have left you skint, broke, tubby, scared, in the gutter. Bah hum grump.
Restaurants know this. They're scared too, you know. Scared that nobody is coming, scared they won't break even, scared that Barry the unhinged Butcher will come knocking on the back door with a 10" Japanese cleaver screaming 'Where's my money, sonny?'
Luckily for us, this means hefty January discount dining. So leave the cut-backs 'til February. February is crap anyway.
This list started as a Top 10 but quickly escalated to somewhere near 30 deals. We'll be adding more as we find 'em.
Here's the most comprehensive list of Manchester's best January restaurant offers you're likely to find anywhere...
1847 - £20 for £40 worth of food.

Neighbourhood - Two courses and a cocktail for £20 (4-7pm Mon-Thurs) or Express Lunch for £8.95
Being one of Manchester's most paparazzi-happy venues, Neighbourhood's kitchen offering often gets overlooked. It shouldn't. Great chance this January then to score two courses and a cocktail for only £20.

Podium Hilton - 50% off a la carte throughout January
Ok, it's not as good as when chef David Gale was steering the ship, and you might even have to stare at Iain Dowie throughout, but 50% of the a la carte menu throughout January in Manchester's tallest building (the tallest outside London, don't cha know) is still a cracking deal.

Southern 11 - 40% off your food bill this January from Sunday to Thursday.

Book a table via the Southern 11 website or by phone.
Hardman Square, Spinningfields, Manchester, M3 3EB. 0161 832 0482.

Callucio's 3 for 2 main courses is the worst one there. Who wants to bring along a third person for dinner if you're in a couple??
You don't have two friends?
That's a trick women often play when you fancy one of them. They always bring their mate along.
Me
what if you are dating twins ? Or siamese twins ?
It is 241 not 341 - I got email from Carluccio's and you just need to print the voucher off. Voucher for up to 6 people Available til 9 Feb.
Sorry! it is 241 not buy 3 get I free!! You get cheapest main free
Good spot that. The 3 was at typo. Now changed. Thank you.
As was 'at'
You lot at manchester confidential have done NO work at all on this list! It's full of holes! You are like a North Korean state sponsored tv channel and just list anything your told by restaurants! Work for the people not for the companies! This should be called the list of restaurants that false advertise! Have you read some of the clauses you have to jump through before getting a discount! Just a little Example for your Cain and grain: "Print this voucher, sign it, then call and book in advance at least a day and only on Mondays to Thursday before 5pm" We went to war in Afghanistan with less planning than this.
Print, sign and book seems fairly simple to us Danny, but feel free to visit one of Manchester's many full-price restaurants this January. Thanks for reading.
now THAT's a flounce
I have to agree with Editorial, its hardly rocket science doing what they ask and is standard policy for most restaurants when they do promotional offers - so that they dont get over booked and can accommodate - so quit your moaning, you're worse than a hormonal woman! By the way, you could've used a few more exclamation marks I reckon.....
In the time it’s taken you to complain here, I have printed off, sorted and booked one of the meals as the instructions are pretty simple. I wonder which was the better use of time….
Says more about the war in Afghanistan than it does booking a meal
isn't this just a "promotion" for a load of MC clients?
Nearly half of those listed have no commercial relationship with us, Pollo. If you come across a good January deal please let us know via the rants and we'll look to include the offer. Thanks.
Oh dear Pollo. Why do you read us? Happy new year by the way, you little treasure.
Where's the Fumo review that was due up before xmas?
Publishing tomorrow, Pollo.
DogsnDough have an offer on weekdays for the duration of January. Any pizza or hotdog for £5 if you book online to dine between 12pm-4pm.
Thanks Avo.
Carluccios " is the epitome of the British dream about Italian food" - Oh Please - who are you kidding - this is chain cooking at the level of Pizza Express.
I actually dine at Carluccios at least twice a month on average in Spinningfields. Bean soup always great, totally authentic and the chicken in breadcrumbs great if you're trying to limit the carbs. And no, Polloloprat, they don't spend money with us.
totally authentic bean soup...just like mamma used to make! He's from a long line of butchers and KP's don't you know!
OMG, these are Genuine Offers and you don't have any life when you put it's all part of a "PROMOTION" whether it is or it isn't the choice is yours, but isn't it good business sense by M.C. if it was, you don't have to use it, go and pay normal price mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6 of us had the Beef and Pudding deal last night and it was fantastic, great food and service, totally recommended, especially for such a good price.
To be fair there is some good offers on here. Wont be required by Gordo or Lottie and the rest of the team as lets be honest they do their best not to pay for any food by pushing restaurants and bars as long as it is gratuitous
Boring.
To be fair that is a good point
Gordo and Schofield dined many times at ABode in my time there and [unless specifically invited by us] paid every time.. even when we were paying for advertising we never got a review for the Grill and got a mediocre 'could do better' review for the restaurant.. If you don't like the ManCon model [or are jealous] don't read the bloody site and quit whinging!
Me and my missus took advantage at 'Sams Chop House' at 3pm on Sat and had a great meal. Quite often go there after shopping in town anyway so to get food half price was a winner for me.
Yes they might do their best to get for Free, but isn't that an advantage for the rest of us?? Come on guys, smell the Coffee!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently the Volta offer is only Tues-Thurs, not Tues-Fri.
Changed now. Thank you.
Went to Albert Square Chop House for Sunday Lunch using the 50% off food voucher, definitely worth a visit - Sunday lunch, desserts and a bottle of wine for 2 for less than £50, bargain (although they did put £6 service charge on which I thought was a bit cheeky).
A meal and a bottle of wine for £50 with the 50% off taken off. F*** Me that is taking the P***
Steve, what would you pay for 2 Sunday roasts, 2 puds and a bottle of wine?
^£50 (then 50% off !)
The bottle of wine was £20 and what I remember the service charge £6 so that leaves £24 for 2 roast dinners and 2 desserts (oh and a cheeseboard too but only because it was 1/2 price as certainly wouldn't be worth £9 at full price). How can that not be bad?
Right so from the original £50 taking off the cheese board then yes not bad but when you read it first time it made a Sunday roast being around £40 a head before discount taking in consideration wine and SC.
Had a nice meal last night at GOTA - however, we did feel somewhat rushed as ordered bread and that was brought to us within 30 seconds whist we read the menu - we ordered starters (thai fish cakes and deep fried brie) which arrived within about 5 mins, plates were taken as soon as we'd finished and the mains (steaks) were with us within 2 mins. We were then was asked several times if we wanted desserts, as it was only 8.50pm I asked for 10 mins breather and she came back a couple of times so we ordered. Table was booked for 8.15pm which is what time we walked through the front door - and waited a few mins before we were sat down at the table and we had finished sourdough bread, starters and mains by 8.50pm ! Had a one off babysitter and a night out and we felt as though we were rushed and then hanging around after the puddings so we asked for the bill (this was actually given to the wrong table (next to us) so waited a bit longer and asked again, to which she then realised, waited 5 mins for card machine to be available and then paid. Time on bill after waiting for card machine etc was checked out at 9.26pm ! 1hr and 11ins since walking through the door ! 3 courses and additional bread ?
I dined there last night too. Table of 6 and service was just as swift. Not too sure why that would be a problem though.
Avo - wasn't a problem as such - just that with 2 young children (and living out of the city ctr) and the effort it is to get a sitter (very rare indeed !) we just wanted to make a bit more of a night of it - or at least a bit longer than an hour ! We're you the table of 6 blokes sat on long table by the kitchen ?
*were
20 minutes per course, perfect timing. if you wanted longer gaps between courses you should have said
They cant serve it quicker than you eat though...
Anonymous - I take it you didn't really read what I put ?
Went for the half price offer at Smoak on Tuesday (thanks ManCon). Food great, service..um...utterly charming and inefficient in equal quantities. But bellies full and wallet not weeping so job well done. Few on your list I've not tried yet.
Glad to hear it Andrea.
Contrary to the above Botanist deal does not apply to Alderley Edge!
Too much money there to bother with offers
Took the Gusto offer. Food was great, got a good deal (eventually). Slightly marred by receiving a full price bill despite them being well aware we were booked in on the offer. Also pissed off at the donation to charity added to the bill without any prior mention or query. Gusto's commitment to support Cancer Research seems to be to con its customers out of a quid, add them all up and then claim kudos for corporate social responsibility when it hands over the cheque. There's no mention of match funding or them making a contribution of their own. I was supposed to feel guilty when I questioned it which really angered me since my wife died of cancer and it's my choice how I wish to support charities, etc.
Booked online for the Gusto offer last Wednesday. Despite making the booking for 7:30 and arriving at 7:35, we were told that the table wasn't ready. We were handed a buzzer a la TGI Friday's and were told to wait at the bar until our table was ready. Upon ordering a drink at the bar, we noticed that there were lots of empty tables. So was this a cynical ploy to get people to sit down and buy an extra drink before being seated for dinner? By 8:00pm our table was still not ready so we walked out. Being the bitter and stubborn old bastard that I am, I will never dine at Gusto after that experience.
I was a bit taken aback by the buzzer too, seemed out of place. Our table also wasn't ready and the place wasn't busy. We waited though and ate. Food was good however the staff need to be more attentive - there's a lot of competition for "Italian" restaurants. I'll stick with Fumo
Duttons Offers - www.duttonsmanchester.co.uk/whats_on…
25% off is a bit poor compared to the plethora of 50% off that many are offering.
@Avo it states 50% off food! www.jwlees.co.uk/…/…
It was 25% last time I looked on their website. They must have changed it last week as the current offer runs from 18th Jan
Did the offer at Smoak today. Middling food at high prices. The mediocrity of expense account hotels.....
Went to the Albert Square Chophouse yesterday for Sunday lunch. Service was good as was the quality of the food. Unfortunately, the portion size of the roast beef sunday lunch was desperately small. Two thin slices of rump, an oversized yorkshire pud, a small quinelle carrot and swede mash, two small broccoli florets and a few shreds of cabbage. My girlfriend had the bonus of some baby carrots too which I didn't. Maybe it was the fact that we arrived at 4pm which meant they were trying to ration some of the ingredients. If they were running out, the should have stopped serving. Perhaps what I was served was a regular portion??
Exactly why I'm extremely wary of most city centre restaurants. Value for money and consistency just isn't there in too many cases. It's so embarrassing if you're taking friends or family out and you have a bad experience.
Christmas dinner there was shocking, tiny portions and half of it was cold, I convinced the office to do it in Mnchester this year rather than cheshire and was totally embarrassed.
Did the offer at Belle Epoque. Lovely food. Good service. Sadly the staff were not mathematically capable of applying the discount to their menu prices. They tried to overcharge us for nearly ten minutes...
Where's the Bint From Belle Époque when you need her?!
She's off trying to poach sad wedding customers from other threads.
Sounds like she needs to work harder with her existing customers before trying to tempt others with her wares...
@Avo Sad as in they're sad people for actually wanting to get married, or they must be sad that because their current plans have been ruined?
Sad because their chosen venues have closed down of course! I'm not a heartless monster!
TNQ are not offering 50% off anymore. I just phoned and they said they had run out of their 50% off vouchers.
Wankers
