Simon Rogan At The Midland: Official Opening Date

THE MIDLAND has announced Tuesday 12 March as the official opening of The French by Simon Rogan.

I can assure people we’ll be using the best of British-only produce and ingredients.

The French closed for refurbishment in January. The modern revamp has incorporated the room's Grade II listed elements, including original features.

The FrenchThe FrenchRogan, well known in the North West for his Michelin starred L'Enclume restaurant in Cartmel, said: “It’s been a very busy few months getting all the plans in place for the opening, but I know I’m speaking for the whole team when I say we’re more than ready to go. I’m also aware of how much interest there has been around the menu, and I can assure people we’ll be using the best of British-only produce and ingredients. Apart from that you’ll have to wait until the opening when all will be revealed.”

Mike Magrane, General Manager at The Midland, said: “We’re very much looking forward to re-opening the doors of The French and welcoming diners to enjoy our exquisite menu. There is a huge affection for The Midland Hotel in Manchester, and we’re confident our guests will not find a food offering of this standard anywhere else in the city.”

The restaurant opening times will be Tuesday – Saturday, with a lunch menu served between noon and 2pm, and dinner sitting starting at 6.30pm and finishing at 9.30pm. Prices: lunch, £29 for three courses, £55 for six courses; dinner, £55 for six courses or £79 for ten courses.

I took a look around yesterday. I'm sure fans, old and new, will appreciate the tasteful redecoration. The bespoke plates are gorgeous and the plans for 'The Colony' are huge! So looking forward to it... have booked for the opening night!

Sure this will be a real success, simon sets a great standard i just hope they keep wine prices realistic £7 a glass for run of the mill Merlot is a bit OTT.

Posted above. Here's another interesting fact: when it reopens there will be women working front of house for the first time in its 100+ year history!

If you're passing today... look up. Simon will be on the roof installing poly-tunnels to grow micro-herbs for the restaurant.

I'd give it ten months before Rogan pulls out. Without fanfare.

They have a full vegetarian tasting menu at L'Enclume that looks excellent. Same goes for Roganic in London. One would expect they will do the same here.

"I can assure people we’ll be using the best of British-only produce and ingredients. "

as you'd only expect in a french restaurant!

First of all, I would expect French dishes and French techniques from a French restaurant - not French produce. In fact, a French restaurant is more likely to use the best produce that is available locally. Secondly, who said this was a French restaurant? But don't let a complete lack of factual knowledge stand in the way of you having a go.

MissMFebruary 22nd 2013.

don't be such an arse, timbuc! i'm not 'having a go'. i'm merely pointing to the irony of the quote in bold. the restaurant is called 'the french' ffs. but don't let me stop me you having a go! oh, and don't try patronising me again either.

the above comment is entirely the work of baggio, and not leah mackay.

AnonymousFebruary 25th 2013.

Timbuc, why is a french restaurant more likely to sauce things localy?

annijesFebruary 22nd 2013.

I think the clue is in the name and the article
