Petit Pois Cake reviewed

The Manchester Confidential offices are often treated to deliveries of food substances to flavour and review. And fight over.

Good point but if you can’t risk the full floured version these make an excellent perfect alternative.

Most of these come in chocolately cakey forms, which I have to turn down. Food intolerances and allergies are becoming increasingly common in modern society, and like so many other I too am unable to eat wheat or dairy products.

However after a day of turning down pancakes and cream (it’s Pancake Tuesday), a rare treat arrived. These gluten and lactose free cakes were met with sighs from most people, but for once I was able to sample a sweet afternoon treat.

Petit Pois Cakes Limited is the company that makes these saviours for people like me. Made from vegetables and rice flour I sampled the orange flavour.

Deliciously sweet and adequately moist, these are a welcome difference from the stodgy, dry baked-goods alternatives on offer in most supermarkets.

Other, non-fussy, colleagues didn’t agree with my delight asking “Why would you eat a vegetable cake when you can eat a normal cake?”

Good point but if you can’t risk the full floured version these make an excellent perfect alternative. Being less than 180 calories per cake these are a great way to get one of your 5-a day as well.
