New Food Quarter Opens At Manchester Airport

IF you're flying from Manchester Airport's Terminal One this summer, check out the just-opened Food Quarter. It's been designed to reflect current eating trends with seasonal pop-ups, local produce, and vibrant Mexican food.

The pop-up street food will vary according to the season

9F8a8362aThe first of the street food pop-ups is Ginger's Comfort Emporium, the quirky ice-cream stall from Claire Kelsey. She serves 'grown-up' ice-cream flavours including the award-winning Marmalade on Toast.

The pop-up street food will vary according to the season with a line-up devised in part by food journalist Richard Johnson who presented the BBC's ‘Kill It, Cook it, Eat it' and contributes to Radio 4’s ‘Food Programme’.

The permanent outlets include Upper Crust, The Pasty Shop, and the vibrant Mexican street food concept Mi Casa Burritos, where you can buy nachos, salads and burritos, all prepared fresh at the counter and served in travel-friendly packaging.

9F8a8367aThe new openings follow the debut of The Grain Loft bar which was designed to reflect the warmth and character of the North West.

A menu highlight here is the Beer Can Chicken sharer for two - a whole marinated chicken, slow roasted over a can of Thornbridge’s Jaipur IPA, and served with triple cooked chips and homemade seasonal coleslaw.

Sharers and light bites include beer battered Bury black pudding fritters, bite-sized pulled beef sliders and British brie club sandwiches.

Olly Swayne from SSP, the company running the new Food Quarter, said: “Over the two decades that we’ve operated at Manchester Airport, the ‘eating out’ market has changed dramatically and passengers’ tastes and needs have evolved. We are very proud to be providing new food and drink offers that provide them with examples of current food trends and flavours from the North West.”

The Food Quarter is now open at Manchester Airport, Terminal One.
