Quick, efficient, friendly service, and food with plenty of fabulous flavours. Perfect - especially when there’s a deadline. Tampopo excels at all of the above.
Their Eastern Express Menu is a clever idea. If there’s a clock ticking over an early evening show, play or gig then simply show your ticket to the serving staff and they’ll offer the Eastern Express Menu.
For £6.95 you get a choice of a main dish from one of these countries, Thailand, Korea, Malaysia or Indonesia plus a glorious side dish of Vietnamese fresh “crystal” rolls, Japanese miso soup or gyoza dumplings, or Malayisan chargrilled chicken satay skewers. For an extra quid you can upgrade on another couple of mains options of Thai stir-fried or Singaporean curry specials, served with jasmine rice.
The editor, Schofield, bumped into this deal recently whilst in a rush to something unspeakable down a Manchester tunnel (Confidential do tours of the dark places of Manchester).
He dived into the Tom Kha from Thailand, made up of rice vermicelli noodles, chicken breast and straw mushrooms in a coconut broth flavoured with galangal and lime leaf. As an accompaniment he had the Yasai Gyoza from Japan, or in other words, three griddled dumplings of water chestnut, bamboo shoot and carrot, with a soy dip.
He was done and dusted in half and hour.
The deal is available until 7pm. Or throughout lunch in case your urgent appointment is with the boss rather than something lively at the Opera House or the Academy.
