THE HIDEAWAY under Ramsons in Ramsbottom is to re-open.
What we are recreating is a backstreet from Venice, one of the ones you stumble upon, hidden away from the usual tourist haunts
The re-invigoration of Ramsons with the cooking of Louise Varley has led to the decision.
The name of the venue will be the Venetian Hideaway will sport a Venetian chef and a Venetian manager/operator. The latter has the utterly delightful name of Paolo Pop.
Pop said this to Confidential: "All the food will be Venetian and nearly all sourced directly from Italy.
"There'll be an aperitivo bar selling very indvidual and very Venetian drinks such as Sgroppino, a mix of prosecco, lemon sorbet and vodka and Bicicletta, a mix of Campari and Pinot Grigio.
"The bar is going to be full of finger food, with cold dishes such as seafood, cold pasta dishes, tramazini - a type of sandwich - prawns and calamari. Nothing will be deep fried and there'll be a true proscuitto cotto.
"What we are recreating is a backstreet from Venice, one you stumble upon, hidden away from the usual tourist haunts. We are also going to have a wood-fired oven that will be the only proper wood-fired oven in Greater Manchester for producing true Italian bread and for cooking steaks."
Confidential wishes the Venetian Hideaway luck. The restaurant has thirty covers and will, if all things go well, open on 1 February."

I was looking forward to this, and just went to look for opening hours. But all mention of the Hideaway or Paolo Pop's Venetian Hideaway has disappeared from the Ramsons website. (Paolo Pop's was there under coming soon a week or two ago.) Has this been abandoned for the moment?
my daughter gave me a £40 voucher for ramsons as a 70th birthday present three months later it is worthless. never buy a restaurant voucher it is a waste of your hard earned money
Venetian Hideaway was a delight to visit! Nothing short of a trip to Venice without the airfare!!! Celebrating my birthday, my partner and I had not made a reservation. We waited less than 10 minutes - worth every second enjoying 'Venice in a glass' cocktail and nibbles at the bar. First, the food was to die for, the chef, Marco, even came to chat to us after we asked for some advice. There was a child celebrating his birthday at the table next to us - he got to make his own pizza at the bar (with help from chefs and his mum!) So cute! Definitely try the House red, perfect with the authentic pizzas! Nothing seemed too much trouble! Best to make a reservation though - we'll make one soon and take my visiting Dad - the upstairs bar was under renovations but looks amazing from what we saw. Will try and get in there.
