It's Gordo's 54th birthday on 19 January, and to mark the big occasion, he's putting on a wine-matched dinner at The Mark Addy. It'll be based on the menu he prepared for his infamous appearance on Come Dine With Me – and his fellow contestants will be there too to give it a second go. Click here for the original story.
Gordo's Come Dine With Me re-run: he's recreating his menu and you're all invited – the other contestants are going too
If you're looking for an antidote to the January blues, this is surely it. First off, there'll be the food (which really should have won on the telly). This time, Gordo will have award-winning chef Robert Owen-Brown on hand to avert any mishaps in the kitchen. And he'll be staying sober(ish) until its plated-up.
The menu will run like this:
Starter: Herby lobster salad with sauce Americaine vinaigrette
Main: French trimmed rack of lamb with Gordo's dauphinoise potatoes and greens
Dessert: Apple tarte with crème fraiche
Secondly, three excellent wines will be matched with each course. Wine supremo Charlie Wolmersley will be in charge on this front. He's one of Gordo's oldest pals and is well known amongst professional circles as a supplier of fine vintages.
Sometimes Charlie even imagines he knows more about wine than Gordo. Gordo laughs at him for this. Expect some spirited banter on the night, along with some great food and wines.
Also expect to see the other CDWM contestants, Jon, Pascha and Jilly, tucking in. Despite the warmongering by the show's producers, the four of them get along relatively well.
It's happening next Wednesday, 19 January, at 7pm for 730pm.
