Published on May 2nd 2012.

The North West Spring Wine Fest

If you're looking for Bank Holiday weekend entertainment and to enjoy a glass of fine wine, get yourself down to The North West Spring Wine Fest 2012.

Organisers promise a celebration of exciting, exclusive and boutique wines from independent merchants – in an unusual setting. This year's festival will be held at St Peter's, a stunning church tucked away in Ancoats.

The weekend fiesta runs across three sessions on 5 and 6 May, where you can enjoy the fruits of some of the best wine producers from around the globe. Each wine has been hand-picked by an independent retailer from the North West, with hangingditch, Bakerie and Cork's Out amongst the purveyors who'll be there.

As well as the tastings, the festival will include walking tours of Ancoats exploring its 'Little Italy' heritage, plus masterclasses from wine-world experts (see box).

Food-wise, there'll be a selection of Fyg Deli favourite producers, artisan breads courtesy of the Bakerie and Italian homemade preserves from Franca's. The Manchester Egg will make an appearance and Ginger’s Comfort Emporium will serve scrumptious artisan and experimental ice cream. A Dark Chocolate and Spiced Red Wine ice cream has been created especially for the festival.

If you opt for the Saturday evening session, you can travel there on the new open top bus from Piccadilly Gardens. This shuttle service is free if you're going to the wine fest. It will be setting off from Chorlton Street, near the Manchester Visitor Information Centre, from 4.45pm onwards on Saturday 6 May.

The North West Spring Wine Fest takes place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 May. Tickets are £10 which includes your tasting glass hire and all tastings for the session! Masterclass tickets are £4 and Walking Tours of Ancoats only £7.50. To buy tickets, please visit North West Spring Wine Fest.
