Southport Food and Drink Festival

The fifth annual Southport Food and Drink Festival takes place 12-15 May, transforming the seaside town into a foodie paradise of cooking demonstrations, fresh produce, street food, tastings, and family activities.

The event will be centred on the Festival Plaza in the Town Hall Gardens where there'll be a busy schedule of demonstrations from local and celebrity chefs, including Michelin star chef Jean Christophe Novelli.

Other highlights include a fiery chilli festival on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 May where piquant products on sale will include chilli plants and seeds, chilli jams, beers, pies and chocolate.

On Sunday 15 May, there'll be an English Wine Day where you can sample some of the very best wines from all over the British Isles, from South West England up to Scotland.

If you prefer something stronger, check out the Whisky Tasting on Thursday 12 May. You'll taste some fine drams under the guidance of a whisky expert who'll share their insight and tasting tips, while keeping you entertained.

Real ale fans will be catered for at the Spring Beer Festival Bar, where brewers will include Southport Brewery, George Wright Brewery, Liverpool Organic, Thwaites, and Cain. It's open as the centrepiece of the Festival Plaza on Lord Street

If you're looking for a free day out with children, the festival has plenty to offer on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May. All restaurants at the ‘Restaurant Village’ will be serving Festival Kids Menus, plus there’ll be a kids ‘Grow Your Own’ Zone for budding botanists, and Southport College will be getting crafty with their foodie art activities.

Plus there’s the Chocolate Festival on Saturday 14 May which is sure to be a major hit with the sweet toothed, young and old. There's also three markets running daily throughout the festival – an artisan market, a local producers' market and a street food market.

It's free to attend and there's plenty going on on every day of the festival. If you were thinking of taking a trip to the seaside, or just fancy a day out of good food and drink, make sure you go.
