Red House Farm

Confidential recommends a day at Redhouse Farm for some weird agricultural goings on

Published on February 14th 2008.

Red House Farm

Everyone likes a roll in the hay. Our favourite’s are egg and cress and beef and horseradish.

For this reason Confidential loves to take the odd excursion to Redhouse Farm Shop and Tea Rooms. Sited close to Dunham Massey in the south west of Greater Manchester, this place seems a million miles from the city centre.

The place, run by Jonny Hewitt and team, put on good events all year round such as the maize maze in summer. This weekend they’re going purple as part of the biggest organised tasting event in Britain: Purple Love Week.

Confidential was going to find out what this was all about but decided against it. The event sounds so filthy we prefer the mystery to some prosaic truth. On the phone we asked, have you any pics we could use? “We’ve got some of pigs painted purple,” came the reply. Asking why would have ruined it. More mysteriously the pic never arrived.

Anyway down at Redhouse this week and weekend there are samplings and tastings galore. You can indulge in sticky treacle pudding from Ashley, ‘Clippy’s Apple Jams’ from Sale, as well as Redhouse Farm’s own range of cheeses, home grown purple sprouting broccoli and home cooked cakes and quiches.

The tea rooms will have a special purple food menu and there will be daily offers. Everyone who goes to Redhouse Farm during the event will have the chance to win a hamper full of goodies worth £50.

Redhouse Farm is in the village of Dunham Massey, 5 minutes from Dunham Massey Hall, just follow the brown signs when you enter Dunham Massey. www.redhousefarm.co.uk
