Liverpool set for first Food Lovers Festival

It's just eight months since we went live, and today Liverpool Confidential is delighted to announce that it has been chosen by North West Fine Food as the online media partner of the Liverpool Food Lovers Festival, the biggest celebration of food and drink ever to take place within the city.

The Liverpool Food Lovers Festival starts on Monday September 3 and promises some mouth-watering events from local food producers to suit whatever your palate desires over two weeks.

This is the first time Liverpool has had a food festival of this kind and we aim to provide something for everyone to get involved in

Starting with a special gourmet dinner at London Carriage Works, created by head chef Paul Askew, it will be followed by record breaking attempts to create the tallest sandwich, a chocolate fantasy evening, fish dishes on the Mersey Ferries and a one-off 1,000 pint giveaway from local breweries.

As well as the fun food events, the festival will also showcase talented young chefs, with a cook-off at the Malmaison Brasserie, and will embrace Liverpool’s cultural heritage with a competition asking for photographs of city families sharing food.

The festival is also supported by the Liverpool Culture Company and will see the Food Lovers Festival launching a competition to create an official cocktail for Liverpool 08.

All food featured throughout the festival will highlight the finest local producers and will comprise a wide range of food and drink offerings.

Sue Nelson, chief executive of North West Fine Food, says: “This is the first time Liverpool has had a food festival of this kind and we aim to provide something for everyone to get involved in. The festival aims to celebrate the very best food, drink and chefs within the area. For people who really love their food and drink this is one to enjoy and take part it.”

The Liverpool Food Lovers Festival is supported by the Mersey Partnership, Liverpool Confidential, Livesmart 08 and Liverpool Capital of Culture.

You'll be hearing lots more about it, from us as the big fortnight gets nearer, with scores of new events being added to the diary, so get ready for a feast like never before.
