Food and Drink Festival notes and notices

The tasty fandango is fast approaching: here are some highlights

Food and Drink Festival notes and notices

MFDF Gala Dinner, Hilton Manchester Deansgate, 11 October, 6.45pm
The dinner celebrates the very best of food and drink in Manchester and will bring the Festival to a glamorous close – or at least turn into a cracking food fight between disgruntled chefs who didn’t win anything.

Sanminis will do the starters at noon, then Ramsons the main and the Choc Café will finish things off food wise. There will a drink arranged in a top local boozer to conclude proceedings.

Guests will be treated to a champagne reception followed by a lavish six-course banquet prepared by David Gale, resident chef at the hotel. They will also get the chance to rub shoulders with event host and TV presenter, Becky Want, as well as celebrities from across the region and beyond for the announcement of the MFDF Award winners.

Nominees will have been facing the public vote on the MFDF website for two months and the results of the poll will then be considered by a panel of independent judges. The MFDF Awards are a benchmark for excellence in the hospitality industries throughout Greater Manchester, and this year there have been strong contenders across all categories.

Tickets are £80 plus VAT, and are available either by calling 0161 839 3461, emailing here or visiting the online box office.

Lunch in the suburbsThree of Ramsbottom’s best restaurants are teaming up with MFDF to stage a one-off experience for Festival goers. Sanminis, Ramsons, and the Chocolate Café, all within a stones throw from each other in Ramsbottom, will host a course each allowing attendees to take in 3 dining establishments as part of one extra special meal. Sanminis will do the starters at noon, then Ramsons the main and the Choc Café will finish things off food wise. There will a drink arranged in a top local boozer to conclude proceedings.

The event will happen twice during the festival - Sunday 3rd October and Saturday 9th October. Two sittings at noon and 2pm will be available throughout each day, and tickets are bookable via MFDF website, for £40.

I love it that Becky Want keeps being asked to present the MFDF Awards. As good at her job as she is, even she will admit that she has absolutely little or no interest in food. I've been on her radio show a couple of times and her eyes glaze over at the very mention of it.

at least the nosh will be good at the Hilton - unlike previous 'Gala' dinners at the Town Hall and the beyond-dire Palace Hotel
