BREAKFAST might be the most important meal of the day but it's also the one we're most likely to skip. If you have days when there's no time for toast before you leave the house, here's your salvation.
They do a great range of hot breakfast pitas that you can customise to your liking
Pita Pit at Piccadilly Place does a breakfast menu well worth knowing about. It's fresh, nutritious, and handmade fast as you watch. They're just over the pedestrian bridge from Piccadilly Station and they're open from early. You can eat in or on the hoof.
They do a great range of hot breakfast pitas that you can customise to your liking. Grilled not fried and served on pita rather than bread, they're healthier than your average builder's buttie. But the taste is all there – Pita Pit use high quality meat, locally sourced ingredients, and organic options whenever possible.
The English Breakfast Pita is a favourite. It's sausage, bacon and baked beans, then you add toppings and sauces for no extra cost (this is standard at Pita Pit).
Toppings include scrambled eggs, tomatoes, grilled onions, mushrooms and fresh spinach. Sauce options are spicy, brown and tomato. The English Breakfast Pita is £4.95 or £3.50 for the petita version.
Other breakfast pitas start at £2.75 and include bacon and eggs, sausage and eggs, ham and eggs and scrambled eggs (they like eggs).
Order any pita and you can add a healthy juice, an ethically-sourced sourced Union Coffee or London Tea for £1, or a handmade yoghurt or fruit pot for £1.25. They also do a gorgeous organic porridge pot.
Pita Pit is making itself fully at home in Manchester. The origins of the brand are in Canada but the local Manchester owners have put a personal take on it, while keeping the focus on first-class service and tasty, healthy food.
So far so good – with a nomination for Best Cheap Eats at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards 2014, great reviews on TripAdvisor, and regulars who probably wish we weren't telling everyone about their secret breakfast spot.
Go and check it out – it's good.
