Corridor bar and The Midland Hotel’s Michael Magrane win major industry awards

Over two hundred and fifty members of the food and drink industry gathered at The Hilton Deansgate, Manchester, on Monday 12 April for the fifth Northern Hospitality Awards celebrating the very best culinary and hospitality skills in the the North.

Salford's very own Corridor bar won Best Bar whilst the dapper and urbane Michael Magrane from the Midland won a well deserved Best General Manager award.

The excellent bash was compered by the food and drink journalist, Nigel Barden (pictured), who presented the nine winners with their awards.

The night’s winners were as follows:

- Best Restaurant - Greens Restaurant & Bistro, Whitby.

- Best Hotel - Hope Street Hotel, Liverpool.

- Best Bar - Corridor, Manchester.

- Best Pub - The Feathers Inn, Stocksfield, Northumbria.

- Best Newcomer – Van Zeller, Harrogate.

- Best Wine Offering - The Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey, North Yorkshire.

- Best General Manager - Michael Magrane, The Midland Hotel, Manchester.

- Best Chef - James Mackenzie, The Pipe and Glass Inn, Beverley.

- Special Achievement - Peter Papprill, Pendrills & The Cheese Detective.

The writer’s pal did the cooking; David ‘Animal’ Gale delivered an exceptionally good four course banquet.

Went in Corridor on good friday at about 1am.

There were only 4 people in and the back room was closed.

Still had great cocktails though.

I agree with Dr AHS, I went in on Valentines weeked and there was just one barman and his friend sat at the end of the bar on a Saturday night. Cocktails were good but there was no atmosphere and nowhere nearby to move on to without ordering another cab

Well done to Corridor Bar.

Saturdays are consistently busy from opening till around close at the moment. They were quiet at the start of the year how ever each week, the numbers are up. Friday can be quiet on occasion for sure.

There's been no real promotion of the bar, it's all been via word of mouth.

I visit most Saturdays at the moment, either staying there for moving on depending on the time or whether I go to a gig like I did on Saturday at Islington Mill.

It's my new fave place in town and makes a refreshing change being on that side of town being away from the NQ. I still have to brave the walk down Shudehill though should I go there.
