Confidential event: Travelling Field Kitchen

Riverford Organic, the folks who bring us the veg boxes, organic meats and other fresh, wholesome food stuffs, are taking their acclaimed Devon restaurant on the road. The Riverford Travelling Field Kitchen will be at Stockley Farm on the Arley Estate near Knutsford in early September (postponed from July). It’s going to be pretty special, so we're putting on a Manchester Confidential evening on the opening night of Thursday 2 September.

The Field Kitchen was given 9/10 when it was reviewed in the The Times, with writer Giles Coren describing it as 'the lunch of my life'. This is a fantastic opportunity to try it without the journey down to the original restaurant in Devon.

There’ll be the option to get on a coach from the city centre to the farm for those who prefer not to make their own way there. Then we'll all gather in a yurt for a gutsy three-course seasonal supper.

The Field Kitchen in Devon is one of the UK’s best and most acclaimed restaurants known for its for seasonal cooking. Fresh-from-the-field produce is prepared in a way you're unlikely to have experienced before. This isn't veggie stews and tofu – it is sophisticated cuisine which uses the best of local organic meats alongside what's ripe in the fields to create a feast of gutsy flavours. As Gordon Ramsay said following a visit to the original Field Kitchen: “I knew it would be good but not that good!”

The Field Kitchen was also given 9/10 when it was reviewed in The Times, with writer Giles Coren describing it as 'the lunch of my life'. This is a fantastic opportunity to try it for yourself - without the long drive to Devon.

Dishes will be based on the menu of the original Field Kitchen and will depend on what's ready to pick that day. Summer mains have previously included grilled leg of lamb on a bed of flageolet beans with salsa rossa and Swiss chard and anchovy gratin. Hearty home-made puddings include the likes of summer berry pavlova and apricot and almond tart.

Expect an informal, friendly atmosphere. At the Manchester Confidential night, you'll be served a glass of fizz on arrival (wine and other drinks also available on the night), then dishes will be brought to you at communal tables for you to tuck in and help yourself – and there’s always plenty to go round. If you're inspired by the food, the recipes will be available on the Riverford website for you to try to recreate at home.

We'll be joined on the evening by the charismatic founder of Riverford Organic, farmer Guy Watson. Together, with Field Kitchen chef Jane Baxter, Guy wrote the Riverford Farm Cook Book which won two accolades at the Guild of Food Writers Awards in 2009. We'll be running a competition at the event to win a copy and everyone will take a sample veg bag home with them at the end of the evening.

We're already looking forward to this event – a trip to the countryside with fellow Confidential foodies for a seasonal feast of organic, inspired, award-winning cuisine. Tickets including the three-course meal, drink on arrival, veg bag and coach travel cost £30 (tickets not including coach travel cost £22.50). Let us know in advance if you're vegetarian or vegan.

The Riveford Travelling Field Kitchen is at Stockley Farm from 2-5 September and 8-12 September. We'd like you to join us on the opening night but if you can't make it then book in for lunch or dinner on another day by calling 0845 3671155 or 01803 762062.
