Cicchetti's Executive Chef Gets Maitrise Escoffier

JOHN Thompson, executive chef at San Carlo Group restaurants has joined the ranks of the culinary world’s celebrated chefs.

The award, medal and diploma, given on recommendation of the president of the Association Culinaire, is in recognition of achievements within the culinary profession.

John has been awarded the highly respected Maitrise Escoffier by the Conseil Culinaire Francais de Grande Bretagne (French Culinary Council of Great Britain).

The award, medal and diploma, given on recommendation of the president of the Association Culinaire, is in recognition of achievements within the culinary profession.

The association's founder members included the universally known chef de cuisine Mr Auguste Escoffier. It's a society managed by chefs for chefs and its main aim is to maintain professional standards of cuisine and to encourage learning and skills.

John, who lives in Sale, has worked for more than 20 years in the restaurant industry. He said, “Great food has been a lifelong passion of mine, which makes being recognised by a leading culinary body and my peers such a great honour and privilege.”

Executive chef for San Carlo Group restaurants, John works much of the time at Cicchetti. He also leads the kitchens at just-opened San Carlo restaurants, alongside exec head chef Franco Bellomusto.

This week John and the executive team have been supervising the launch of the San Carlo Group’s new Signor Sassi restaurant in Beirut.
