Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns, is being brought to life for a special appearance at Manchester’s Big Wheel on Tuesday 25 January, the internationally-celebrated anniversary of Burns’ birthday.
VisitScotland, Scotland’s national tourist organisation, has joined forces with the Manchester Big Wheel who will play host from 11am until 5pm to a Burns performer who will recite some of the bard’s most famous works such as My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose, Address to a Haggis and, of course, Auld Lang Syne.
A kilted bagpiper will also treat visitors to the wheel and passers-by to some of the most famous Scottish tunes, giving the day a real flavour of Scotland.
The Big Wheel is offering 2-for-1 tickets on Tuesday 25 January and, as an added bonus, anyone with a surname starting with ‘Mc’ or Mac’ or the surname ‘Burns’ will ride the wheel for free.
The first 100 customers to ride the wheel on the day will also receive a fantastic VisitScotland goody bag. These will be filled with Scottish foodie treats, including a mini haggis with recipe cards, and information on Ayrshire where Robert Burns lived and worked.
Manchester’s Harvey Nichols Second Floor Brasserie is celebrating the day and Scotland’s Year of Food & Drink, by offering a special Burns Supper menu from 5.30pm until 10pm on Tuesday, January 25, featuring traditional haggis, neeps and tatties at a special price of just £20 for three courses and a celebratory whisky cocktail.
The menu will also feature classic Scottish dishes such as Cullen Skink, Game Pie and Cranachan Cheesecake.
