Sunday carvery at Waterside Hotel

This Didsbury hotel puts on a cracking spread on Sundays

Sunday carvery at Waterside Hotel

Sundays can either be the best day of the week or the worst depending on your strategy. Ironing, washing-up, and pre-Monday blues make for bad Sundays. Relaxing, eating well, and getting a little bit merry make them good.

Meat-lovers get ready for honey-roast ham, or roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, or roast chicken with all the trimmings. These are big feeds without the big cooking and washing-up marathon that you'd have to endure at home.

The Waterside Hotel in Didsbury, they know how to make sure your Sunday is a day of happiness and indulgence, rather than one of chores and creeping dread. They put on a rather spectacular carvery in their restaurant and only charge you £9.95 to eat it (£6.95 if you're a child). That's for a starter and a main (desserts are a little bit extra, if you can fit one in).

You harvest your starter from the buffet table which is heavy with moreish deli-type dishes: dressed seafood, continental meats, seasonal salads, home-made soup of the day. Go back for more if you like, but make sure you leave space for the main event.

The carvery itself changes weekly but it will always feature at least three roasts and a vegetarian option. Meat-eaters get ready for honey-roast ham, or roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, or roast chicken with all the trimmings. These are big feeds without the big cooking and washing-up marathon that you'd have to endure at home.

The Waterside is a relaxed but well turned-out hotel – the kind of place you can take children or grandparents, or go with friends for a meet-up. It's ideal for a Mother's Day meal (3 April, before you start panicking).
