I absolutely love Sam’s Chop House. It has to be, hands down, my favourite pub in Manchester. And the food is spot on every time – but you probably don’t need me to tell you that.
Now I’m not usually a calorie counting kinda gal, but I’m going on holiday next week and I want to look my best on the beach.
Recently though, I went to Sam’s for a pre theatre drink and a bite to eat with a friend, only to realise that practically everything on the menu seems to have come from Fatty Fat’s shop for fat people. Normally I wouldn’t have noticed this carnival of calories as I’m not exactly a chip dodger, and the food at Sam’s is sooo good, but eating there for the first time since starting to watch my weight, I was mortified.
Imagine my joy then, to discover that there’s a new head chef in town, whose brief will include making the menu more balanced, with light dishes as well as substantial ones. Hurray!
Simon Stanley, who apparently is more than a bit good having won lots of awards and worked with many a famous name chef, has spent the last four years at Le Petit Blanc, another well loved Manchester institution.
On his new challenge, Simon commented “My brief is simple. I have been asked to make Sam’s one of the top three restaurants in town. And to make the menu slightly more balanced, with light dishes to match the substantial ones. With more food for ladies and for people who’re watching their waistlines. I have been asked to aim high.”
“I liked what I read about Sam’s. I love the fact that the business is local and independently owned. And that the bosses are decent, ordinary people (Eh?? – Gordo). At this time in my career, I’m keen to work in a new culinary tradition.”
Simon’s new menu is now being served at Sam’s. For more information and contact details, click here.
