NQ Keeps 4244 Until Xmas

MARY Ellen McTague, Great British Menu finalist, Guardian food columnist and the woman behind the award-winning Aumbry restaurant in Prestwich, has announced that her popular 4244 'pop-up restaurant' in Northern Quarter will stay open until Tuesday 23 December.

This is good news for the city centre. McTague has been serving up top-quality, modern British, Northern grub out of her charming cottage restaurant in the sticks for a good many years.

McTague made the temporary move into the city centre in late September whilst Aumbry receives a lick of paint and a touching up.

The 'pop-up' 50-seater restaurant - tucked away at the back of Teacup at 42-44 Edge Street (hence the name) - was only supposed to stay open for a five-week stint.

However, following a hugely successful opening month the team have announced they'll stay on for another eight weeks.

This is good news for the city centre.

McTague has been serving up top-quality, modern British, Northern grub out of her charming cottage restaurant in the sticks for a good many years. It hasn't gone unnoticed. Aumbry features in this year's Waitrose Good Food Guide and the AA Guide, there were even whispers of Michelin this year, but those guys missed their stop on the way to the Lake District.

For November, 4244's five course taster menu will feature sheep sorrel, hare loin, curds and slow cooked Sika deer. Did we tell you she was Northern?

Head Chef and patron Mary-Ellen McTague said:

“We’ve been truly humbled by the welcome we have received in the city centre.  4244 has shown us that serving fine dining in the city centre in a relaxed and personal environment is achievable, we jumped at the chance to extend our stay in order to meet the high demand.”

4244 opens in the evenings only. You can book via the website: www.4244.co.uk

Wonder if its whetted her appetite to have a place in town? Wouldn't be surprised if they are looking for a suitable venue, I hope so, but never mind if not as I'm moving to Prestwich soon!
