EVEN when it’s closed for refurbishment, the popular Lounge Ten can still catch you off guard.
She returned moments later - I’ll never know where from - carrying, and I kid you not, a human head.
I had been tipped off to the fact by lots of readers that the restaurant - a particular favourite of Confidential’s editor - had closed its doors and no-one could tell me why.
The website was offline and the phone had been disconnected. Intriguing.
I wandered down to Lounge Ten in the hope of finding a few clues to help me, but found it empty, with the lights off, and nothing explaining why.
In desperation I tried the door and, oddly, found it open.
The entrance was dark but there was light on somewhere in the back and there were faint noises coming from within.
“Hello,” I enquired tentatively.
After a moment or two, a man emerged from somewhere holding a broom. He was followed by a woman who went outside and politely asked me to hold the door open for her.
She returned moments later - I’ll never know where from - carrying, and I kid you not, a human head.
The severed head may have been a replica rather than the real thing, but that didn’t stop it being a rather unsettling experience.
Upon regaining my composure, I remembered what I was doing there and managed to learn a few things from my trip.
Lounge Ten is closed for refurbishment, although everyone’s being a little bit coy about the specifics.
The place hasn’t had any work done for about ten years and the powers that be decided it was time to give the place a little love.
Confidential understands it should be ready to reopen its doors to the public in around three weeks.

Methinks you have to be a bit more investigative Paul, if you really need to discover the reason behind the 'refurb'. Closed on top of Christmas with no telephone, no web site and no message to explain why. It may well reopen - but I doubt it will be in the guise of a refurbished Lounge Ten, which will be a shame. Maybe Phil's just had enough after all these years?
A complete shame if true, Anon. Lounge 10 is my absolute favourite restaurant in Manchester by far, and it's a complete luxury to go for Friday lunch and spend a thoroughly pleasant couple of hours there. I hope and pray it returns, and not for the worse.
Also my favourite restaurant but... judging by the fact that we were told in July that they were "opening in the next 3 weeks", the website being down, phoneline cut and very little activity happening on-site - I would suspect the place is long gone. It is a shame but the last time I went, there were two tables that left without paying, and when I asked a waiter if they'd "done a runner" I was told no, but I shouldnt ask any further questions - the waiter stared at me in a knowing way. I thought then and there that the restaurant's days were numbered. Possibly it was just too special and many people thought it only suitable for a Weekend trip.
My favourite restaurant. Well, it used to be. I was contacted asking if I'd like to pay £100 to become a member...highly exclusive...no membership no entry. I say...no deal, I'll find another new favourite restaurant.
Didn't realise that the restaurant had been closed since early July - five months for a refurb on a place that is already kitted out as a restaurant is a little unbelievable really. As for the 'non-runners', it was fairly common place for friends, family and hangers-on of the owner to eat, drink, be merry but never to pay the bill. That cannot last forever, much as a bon viveur the proprietor may be.........
We always ate their at the furniture shows fab restaurant we dined in July and then we noticed it had closed shortly after ????
Any news on this......there seemed to be workers inside today, but not much progress since July. It would be a pity to see this class restaurant close for good.
Bugger, I hope it will re-open as I have a 'big' birthday coming up in Feb and I was deffo having my do there. Alas, it's been a week now since I emailed to make the booking and no response, so my instinct is it's gone..sadly..and I'm going to have to revert to plan b if only I had one! Anyone recomend anything with a similier vibe and good food??? Karencrisis
always strugling to pay every one from waiters to the entertainers this kind of situation cant go on for ever , but who knows they may decide to refurb and soldier on, time will tell , the lounge has had some wonderfull nights over the years, but nothing lasts for ever.
had some fab nights at lounge ten i do hope it opens soon.
always strugling to pay every one from waiters to entertainers, this situation cant go on for ever maybe they have decided to call it a day.
maybe you are right , we will see
still not open whats going on ?
Are there still no updates on the grand reopening
There will be no 'grand opening'. Closed means closed for good I'm afraid.......
They had builders in the other day but seriously doubt they will get their loyal customers back even if they do re-open - I had a big booking for sept and they didnt even have the decency to tell me they were legging it! A guise to get rid of their rates bill I reckon and fold the company.
"fold the company" indeed. For the fifth or sixth time in its history - this time I believe it's for good though
Its opening this saturday August 3rd. Its had a complete refurbishment, there will be a singer on Victor and Tony the magician should be interesting.
Anyone been since August 2012 ? Comments ?
yes, it's up to scratch
