WHOLE Lobsters 15 quid in a five star hotel.
Gordo has just come back from an early evening dinner prior to finishing up his stories for the end of the week at home in front of the radiogram. He is a little gobsmacked.
Gordo went into the Alto restaurant and found that Miles has sacked off all the food menu, and is now serving, wait for it, yes, just the 10oz rib eye steak or a whole lobster.
Why?
Well he thinks Stephen Miles, grumpy gaffer at the Radisson Edwardian, has gone gone mental. That's not just for being a Spurs supporter.
Gordo spotted a flier on the way up Quay street, proclaiming: '10oz rib eye steak or whole lobster. £15. With frites and a green salad'.
Blimey.
Well readers, Gordo went into the Alto restaurant and found that Miles has sacked off all the food menu, and is now serving, wait for it, yes, just the 10oz rib eye steak or a whole lobster. £15. With frites and a green salad.
No catch.
That is all the Alto restaurant serves. They aren't up-selling you with anything else, that's it.
They have literally thrown the menu away, and just stamped the wine list with 'STEAK' or 'LOBSTER".
Gordo had the lobster and a pot of tea.
They even give you extra bowls of fries and salad if you ask. FOR NOWT. If you are reading this from outside the region and have not watched Corrie, NOWT means nothing. A word that gets Gordo's juices going.
And it was bloody good.
Maybe the chefs should crack the claws. Gordo, mind you, cracked his with one hand. The lobster was small and sweet as a nut. Don't go thinking that lobsters should be big. 1lb 2oz is Arabella Boxer's maximum size recommendation and she nicked that from 3 star chef Michel Guerard. Bigger, they get tougher.
Good salad, well dressed, the first bowl of chips just off crisp, the second, bloody perfect.
Go.
But not when the football is on. This is Gordo's favourite bar to watch it from and you lot can go and bugger off.

Do you know if the Lobsters are native Gord?
I doubt it; however, they are good. I buy mine from the Anglesea fish man who is in China Town every Sunday, around 8 quid, sometimes Canadian, sometimes native, unless you stumble across across native female with eggs and under 1lb 2oz, i cant tell the difference. (they are stunning and all that my hero Michel Guerard will use) .Bloggers think they can but are talking out of there arse.
have bought some myself off the fishman myself which were good. Have you been in that new seafood shop in Chinatown yet...near Ho's bakery? Live scallops, clams, spider crabs, lobsters etc...check it out.
this is brilliant from Hungy hoss! Service: I asked a fella if the lobsters were ‘Nova Scotian’ or ‘Native’ and was told, “Yes, Nova Scotian… from Scotland.”
Unconvinced, I asked one of the female waitresses where the lobsters were from and was told, “From a tank… nearby… in Warrington, I think.”
I gave up but a nearby chap (a guest of the hotel), very impressed with his lobster, asked, “How long have you been doing this for?” The waitress went away to consult with another and came back with the answer, “From Scotland.”
there is a place in london called lobster burger that only do lobster and burger its £25 i eat there the other day just to see what it was like and to be honest it wasnt great but they buty na near 1000 lobsters over the weekend. so well donr the raddison brillent idea cant wait to try. and gordo spot on with the lobster weight 1lb to 1.5lb are optimen in my oppion any way
David, time for a beer methinks...
methinks your to right. its been far to long
David, you might like to spend less time worrying about lobsters, and more time checking your spelling. just saying, like.
as he's a chef i very much doubt he'll be that arsed about his spelling...
Surely chefs need to be able to spell too. Writing menus, orders, recipes...
One is inclined to check this one out.
As is standard at the Radisson, is there a 10% service charge added to the price? I see at the bottom of the receipt that it seems to be still common practice yet Gordo hasn't had the "gratuity" added to his bill.
I cant believe Gordo Didn't try the steak Too while he was there after a light Lobster and that
when i started chefs didnt need to spell just cook thats seems to be changing more and more nowadays and anyway im sure people would say spelling is just of one my many short commings(wouldnt you gordo)
and id much rather spend time thinking of fantasstic food than worring what people think about my spelling
and i dont realy see my comment takes much away from the fantastic and brave idea that the guys at the raddisson are trying to do and good luck to them
oh and i just tried to book and they were full the night i wanted so brilent and i hope everyone really enjoys it
Well said Mr Gale. Keep thinking about fantastic food and serving it up - you leave most for dead at that.
I went on Sunday. I had the lobster and the girlfriend had the steak. Both were excellent and the dessert prices were also reasonable. Service was good which meant I was happy to pay the 10% service charge which was added to the bill however it raises the question which I have previously posed on here as to why Gordo's bill didn't have the service charge added? Did he ask for it to be taken off because of poor service or was this preferential treatment of the fat one?
