First Look: Bill's Restaurant, John Dalton Street

BILL'S is to open next week and promises to keep hunger pangs at bay from breakfast until bedtime.

Already the place has drawn attention and looks set to give nearby rivals Katsouri's and Salvi's a run for their money at busy lunch hours.

Opening at 8am and 9am on Sundays it's in an ideal city centre location to catch those hungry on their way to work and for lazy brunches on the weekend. Also with a large terrace at the rear and seating space out front, Bill's is opening just in time to catch the summer crowd searching for a place to eat and drink as soon as sunshine shows its face.

Already the place has drawn attention and looks set to give nearby rivals Grill on the Alley and Restaurant Bar and Grill a run for their money at busy lunch hours. Even whilst Confidential was in taking pictures people came in to book tables for the official opening on Monday and many curious onlookers came to view the menu and peer through the windows at the new eaterie.

The restaurant, with space for 160 covers, takes up residence in former Spanish clothing shop Adolpho Dominguez and work has been underway since the beginning of the year.

The vast menu has a full breakfast starting at £7.95, lunch dishes and main meals starting at £8.50 and afternoon tea from £9.95. The drinks menu has bottled beers, cocktails, smoothies, as well as Bill's own brands of wine at £14.75 per bottle and champagne too at £35 per bottle.

Bill's originally started in Sussex and has now grown to have over 40 restaurants with four more set to open in the near future. Liverpool is next on the list alongside Epsom, Farnham and York for the chain that promises "to serve really good food, to make sure every customer has a good time, and go that bit further to make sure Bill's is always somewhere people want to come back to".

Bill's can be found at: 8-12 John Dalton Street, Manchester, M2 6JP.

Breakfast from £7.95! Can't see it giving Katsouris any problems!

do you know the price of everything but the value of nothing, Nickster?

AnonymousJuly 4th 2014.

I must say it looks like a great fitout and I very much like their use of the outdoor space.

Hard to beat Katsouris - especially as it's local and authentic and not some London chain. Besides, the name "Bills" reminds me of that camp Australian chef that always on TV

It's 'that's' not 'that' .....

This n That? Surprised no-one's mentioned there yet....

Australian Bill's was also a breakfast specialist. I get confused too

AnonymousJuly 10th 2014.

Confused? Avoid the pink mince. It can cause premature confusion.

Bill's breakfast is edible, Gazza

Jeez here we go - let's attack a new venture. There is room enough for katsouris and Bill's and many others. It maybe a chain but please read the story properly ...it started in Lewes, Sussex which is as far from London as Leeds is from Manchester..... But forget all that the 'it's name sounds like a camp chef I hate' comment has convinced me not to go ... Ffs

I think with Bill's, the burger has now finally arrived in Manchester.

Are you taking the effing piss??? So you're telling me the formulaic burgers at Bill's are better than those offered by Almost Famous, Red's True BBQ, Solita, The Handmade Burger Company, Byron, Grinch and all the other purveyors of round meat patties in Manchester?

PryonicJuly 7th 2014.

I reckon they were taking the piss, and it seems they succeeded in winding you up Avo ;)

Well, I eat regularly at the Bill's in Holborn in London regularly as it is convenient for work breakfasts and lunches. It is OK - even quite good. But I really do not understand why it seems to be taking over the UK. I hope that Manchester manages to resist the chains more effectively than London has.

AnonymousJuly 7th 2014.

Looks nice enough. The outside space looks good too. I don't understand the complaints.

Looks very nice inside and out. Is very nice inside and out. Food though (lunch) didn't match the looks at all. Will have to try the breakfast / brunch though as seemingly that's what they're famed for.

AnonymousJuly 8th 2014.

Just had lunch here. Food really average, staff totally overbearing.

To be quite honest, that was a very good breakfast! Staff are very good!

Bill's is the right name for this place. One full English breakfast cost £19.14! (3 eggs, two small sausages, two slices of bread, a desert spoon of mushrooms, a ramekin of beans and half a diet coke. £19.14!!

Half a diet coke with a full English breakfast? They weren't charging you mate, they were fining you.

The Manc's need to be more creative and do their thing in the city if they can. What works in London isn't working here. It must be their pricing. Sack off burgers, BBQ, pulled pork, YAFI's and coffee shops and let's see something original. The thing is, what else is there? An all you can eat pie shop?

davidNovember 10th 2014.

Hated it - wine was ok, nothing special Fishfinger Sandwichs - cod goujons from the freezer. Optional tip added to the 'bill' and had to ask to be removed. This place has the right name! Expensive average food - probably like a harvester.
