Choice's Birthday Dinner

Drinks reception, five-courses, live music – and everyone's invited

Choice's Birthday Dinner

Choice restaurant in Castlefield is ten-years-old this November and they're inviting Confidential readers to help them celebrate.

On Friday 18 November, Choice is putting on a five-course birthday dinner showcasing the signature dishes that have made them a city favourite. If you're a fan of the place, or are just looking for a superb Friday night out of excellent food and good company, get yourself a ticket.

The night will start with a canapé and drinks reception before you're seated for one of their stunning five-course taster menus. If you've not experienced one of these yet, you're missing a trick (they're one of the most frugally-priced fine-dining experiences in Manchester).

When Choice first opened its doors back in 2001, the words 'locally sourced' weren't half as ubiquitous as they are today. Jon Grieves, the gaffer, was one of the first in Manchester to embrace the Jamie Oliver and Rick Stein way of doing things, getting his ingredients from folks he knew and trusted rather than shipping in food stuffs from miles away. WH Frost Butchers, Out of the Blue Fishmongers, and JB Richardson Bakery are amongst his suppliers.

The approach has won Choice a sizable haul of awards and pats-on-the-back including AA rosettes, the Manchester Tourism Taste of the Year Award, the Hi-Life Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year Award, and the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Restaurant of the Year Award.

Not bad, but hosting Peter Kay's Coronation Street debut surely eclipses all that. (Kay's character, Eric, took barmaid Shelley out for a date at Choice in 2004.)

The birthday party is a big celebration of all this. As well as the brilliant food there'll be live music from soul singer Katie Miller and a few 'surprises'.

If you'd like to be there, reserve your ticket sharpish. It's a birthday bargain at £29 for five courses and the drinks reception. It's happening on Friday 18 November from 7.30pm.
