Think of very good meat and apart from Scotland, these days the Argentinean restaurants here in the UK are getting a good name for themselves. Over in Holland, this was the case for a long time. The steak houses there are phenomenal, as are the Indonesian establishments. They are as prevalent as Thai here in the UK, every bit as interesting, arguably more so actually.

However, Brazilian beef has for over 30 years or more been eaten in the majority of southern states in the USA and considered some of the best in the world. The reason for wittering on about this is simple. Manchester is about to get it’s very own Churrascaria. Simple, eh? That’s Brazilian for a thumping good steak house where you sit down, pay a lump sum per head (£19.50) and find yourself in control of a table mat which is green on one side and red on the other.

Leave the mat green and you quickly find yourself visited by a waiter with a huge skewer that has had a variety of meat cuts thrust along it, barbecued on a great big pit. He slices off the cuts of meat you require. For the pussies amongst you, there are chickens and fish as well and for the aficionados, some banging sausages. Once you have had enough (for the time being) you turn your mat to red and find the cheeky bugger stops coming. At this stage, you might have helped yourself to the Brazilian equivalent of a salad bar. Believe me, Pizza Hut’s salad bar this ain’t. Gordo is struggling to find the correct word that doesn’t sound cheap, so buffet doesn’t cut it either. Wait and see, they are really fantastic. This selection can get anyone into their daily fives. Get back to your seats, tuck in. More meat? Turn the mat back to green. Wahey!

So, as much as you can eat. With a shed load of class. A Caiparinho trolley passes you every few minutes. These guys have a great selection of the Brazilian wines known as Miolo and if you want to really get a buzz on, try the Cachaca. It’s a rum, but has it’s own appellation now.

Look out for this one, Gordo has his name down for the opening night.
