A Floating Feast With MFDF

AS part of the Manchester Food and Drink Festival, top chef Robert Owen Brown will be taking diners on historical food cruises down the River Irwell.

To gain a true taste of times gone by, foodies and families are invited to step aboard the specially chartered boat which will be setting sail on Saturday 15 October.

"As well as an on-board tour guide regaling diners with stories of the waterways, there’ll be a sumptuous three-course meal from the Mark Addy chef."

Its first jaunt will be during the day for the Floating Family Day Out. Shipmates will start the day at the People’s History Museum before climbing aboard and enjoying activities, plus a selection of regionally inspired snacks courtesy of Robert Owen Brown.

Later the same evening, A Festival Floating Feast Dinner Cruise will sail along the Irwell and back 200 years to the Industrial Revolution.

As well as an on-board tour guide regaling diners with stories of the waterways, there’ll be a sumptuous three-course meal from the Mark Addy chef. Inspired by the recently-launched Taste of Modern History recipe book, the menu will feature North West dishes that would have filled the bellies of the mill workers, engineers and gentry of the past. Delicacies include Madeira spiked wild mushroom soup, roast breast of guinea fowl with lime and honey and Manchester trifle.

The family boat trips set sail on Saturday 15 October at 11:30am, 1:15pm and 3pm and cost just £6 per person, including refreshments.

A Festival Floating Feast Dinner Cruise takes place on the same day at 6:30pm-9pm and costs £48 per person.

Both trips start from the Mark Addy pub and tickets can be booked via www.ticketline.co.uk or by calling 0161 832 1111.
