Published on October 25th 2012.

Win Sir Peter Blake Gift Set

DESCRIBED as the Godfather of Pop Art, Sir Peter Blake’s work spans more than half a century and includes many images that have gone down in both art and music history.

To mark the opening of the exhibition, The Lowry is offering one winner the chance to take home a goody bag of Sir Peter Blake items including a copy of the Peter Blake One Man Show book, forming a comprehensive record of the artist’s career. Alongside the book, the winner will be able to get creative with a Make Your Own Collage with Peter Blake gift set, plus a Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band mug.

Well-known for having co-designed the album cover for The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Blake also created covers for the 1984 Band Aid charity single Do They Know It’s Christmas? / Feed the World, Paul Weller’s Stanley Road and Oasis’ Stop the Clocks, amongst numerous others.

An exhibition to explore the relationship between his work and music and mark the artist’s 80th birthday, Peter Blake and Pop Music opens at The Lowry, Salford Quays, between Saturday 10 November 2012 – Sunday 24 February 2013.

Examples of his album artwork will hang alongside portraits of Blake’s own rock and roll idols, such as Elvis Presley and Sammy Davis Jnr as well as famous work from the artist’s career-defining era of the 50s and 60s, including Got A Girl and Self Portrait With Badges. Items from the artist’s own collections of pop memorabilia includes former student of Blake, and post-punk legend, Ian Dury’s rhythm stick and the prototype for Blake’s 2012 Brit Award statuette design.

To be in with a chance of winning this pop art prize just answer the question: Name two rock and roll artists portraits by Blake? Email the answer with contact details to jonathans@theconfidentials.co.uk calling the email 'Blake competition'.

Peter Blake and Pop Music is one of two temporary exhibitions open to visitors at The Lowry until early 2013, with the Comedians: From the 1940s to Now photographic exhibition also on display, featuring portraits of renowned comic performers from the National Portrait Gallery collection.
